“Super Meals at a Reasonable Price” Reviewed August 30, 2012 The Intermezzo Italian restaurant at 208 8th Avenue near 20th Street in New York was recommended to us several years ago by a local resident. We make a point of stopping by whenever we are in NYC. The food is fresh! The Caesar's salad doesn't lack for cheese and is well tossed. The pastas have been uniformly excellent in our experiences. The linguine with clams is superb -- lots of sizable clams (in the shells) cooked and tender -- one of my favorites. They have an early diners Price Fixed "Show Menu" that is very reasonable priced, especially for NYC. I added a tiramisu -- made the traditional way with lady fingers -- excellent. The waiters are traditional New York -- very competent if a bit brusque at times. Service is superb. One example, we couldn't empty our water glasses as they were kept full! Yes, we will be going back again.

We dined here at prime time one Friday evening. The place was mobbed. A usual, Benny the manager was working the floor, making sure everything is going right. The man is one big reason to come here. We wish every manager in the hood learns from him. The food is always reliably good, and the service is always attentive and cordial. We here at least once a week since Benny took over as manager. Special Features: neighborhood gem

Went on with a Groupon but have been meaning to go back to this restaurant for awhile though. The decor was very nicely re-done since having last been there - tasteful though the back chandelier should have been larger rather than the same size as the front two. We started out our pre-fixe dinner with mussels (a bit fishy and small-sized mussels) and the seasonal soup (tasty!). We then had the chicken parmagiana and papardelle bolognese as our main dishes. Both pretty tasty but again, the chicken was a bit salty. However, the side pasta to the chicken was prepared wonderfully - usually that is an after thought and often overdone but here it was al dente, yum. We took desserts to go, tiramisu and cheesecake, the cheesecake was better. Special Features: neighborhood gem, romantic, special occasion

This was our second time at Intermezzo and it was a planned date night out. Our first experience we happened upon it by accident and had a charming evening so for our next date night it was the spot. We are happy to say that it was just as good the second time around. Affordable menu. Excellent Service. Charming atmosphere. A true gem in Chelsea. Special Features: neighborhood gem, romantic, special occasion

Went to Intermezzo with a large party after our wedding. We had the champagne brunch and never had an empty glass. The dining space was a bit tight, but the atmosphere was so friendly and warm it was like being at a party where you know everyone! The brunch entertainment was top notch, but not for children. The food was great and even my picky friend had nothing to complain about, and that rarely happens. The complete package; food, drinks and entertainment, I thought would be rather expensive. It was a great value and didn't break the budget. Special Features: vibrant bar scene, fit for foodies, good for groups, great for brunch, neighborhood gem, romantic, special occasion, hot spot

Bartender Ryan made the night great! I was in NY for the weekend and looking for a place for an evening bite. I didn't want anywhere too formal, just something relaxed - as I was dining as a party of one this evening. I made a reservation via OpenTable based on reviews and recomendations. It turned out to be a great choice(but it could have fit the bill for someone looking for that "special" place as well). I ended up sitting at the comfortable bar rather than a table. The bartender - Ryan was a wonderful host and waiter. He made the evening really enjoyable. The food was great and the drinks were wonderful as well. Overall the Intermezzo experience was awesome and one I plan on repeating on my next visit to NY. Special Features: neighborhood gem, hot spot

While the service was not what I am used to at Intermezzo on this latest visit, the food was INCREDIBLY GOOD!!! I had the crab filled ravioli with asparagus and vodka sauce, and my partner had a wild mushroom and black truffle risotto. I just can't say enough about how well prepared the entrees were. We were there celebrating my birthday and it was a great way to end "my day"! Special Features: vibrant bar scene, fit for foodies, good for groups, late-night find, neighborhood gem, notable wine list, romantic, special occasion, great for lunch, hot spot

Superb Friendly Atmosphere What a wonderful job they have done with the decor, menu and service. Even the drinks are fun. Intermezzo captures the neighborhood! I like lunch more than dinner because it is more quiet. Try the fusilli with sausage or the linguini with clams.

The food at Intermezzo is superb. We eat there frequently, just a few couples, small groups of friends and even solo, so we have sampled most of the appetizers and entrees on the menu as well as many deserts. Be prepared to wait as the evenings and especially the weekends are very crowded. The service is superb, but what I would term a little too fastidious and pretentious for my tastes, but it is part of the atmosphere. Pricing is not inexpensive, but moderately high. You do get everything you pay for and more. I can recommend Intermezzo without reservation. You will definitely enjoy it.

ALWAYS great food and service! This is a place we go often for a dinner out and a special occasion. Intermezzo is also a place where I take out-of-town friends and family when they visit me in NYC! They also feature an EXCEPTIONAL wine list- one of the best in town for a smaller Italian Bistro. I love Intermezzo and have for years!

Recently redecorated, Intermezzo is now brighter and airier but still maintains it great neighborhood charm. Attentive service, tasty risotto, and convenient neighborhood vibe make this place a must for Chelsea diners.

My group dined here at the end of a walking tour of Chelsea and the High Line. Our experience was excellent. There were seventeen in our group. The waiters and maitre d were extremely attentive. We had several different food selections and everything arrived promptly . The portions were very generous and all diners thought food was delicious. We will return on future trips to NYC!

My friends and I were pleasantly surprised. We've all eaten here before but it has been years back and we've heard somewhat negative reviews of the restaurant from other friends who have recently eaten here. Maybe our other friends came at an off night because we had quite a pleasant experience here. The food was quite good and portions were just right. The service was very attentive considering it was a busy Saturday night for them and we lingered a bit after we finished eating and they didn't try to rush us out. My friend and I will definitely come back here again soon and not wait a couple of years down the road!

We finally decided to try Intermezzo, and we are so happy we did. The ambience is so charming with the classy touch of chandeliers, not-too-dark lighting and great old sinatra jazz music. Everything was just perfect which is kinda unusual for me... (ask my fiance:) hence I was impressed! I also really appreciated the attentiveness from the maitre'di, something I don't see in pricier establishments downtown. We ordered the calamari and caprese for appetizers (always enjoy capreses) and the shrimp was so fresh and juicy from my risotto entre. I think my fiance enjoyed his steak too. It was a definitely a pleasurable evening for us. Thank you!

There is nothing not to like about dining at this restaurant. The meals are expertly prepared. The glass of wine is fair. The service attentive. They even think to put hand cream in the ladies room

We have patronized Intermezzo since it began in the '90s but stopped coming about a year ago... Now, it is under new management and we wanted to give it another try. We are glad we did. The manager is the epitome of hospitality, the service was good and the food, as always is quite tasty and reliable. This is a perfect neighborhood restaurant. Categorized: Neighborhood Gem

“Crowded, Loud, Strong Drinks, and pretty good Food” Had a 2pm brunch reservation for 6 people. We were seated at about 2:40. The place was jammed packed with a very interesting mix of people. Groups of gay men, groups of girls in their 20's, racially very diverse which is odd in Chelsea. Of course there was some B&T action, but not too bad. Drinks were strong and they kept them flowing, and when the food arrived, it was actually rather good. It was a very loud but after a couple of drinks we didn't seem to mind...

“The Best Chicken Parmigiana, EVER!” Really nice, reasonably priced Chelsea Italian restaurant. I sat at the bar and had a great dinner, chatting with other folks at the bar and being served by a friendly and efficient bartender. I ordered the Chicken Parm that was fantastic. So many choices for Italian in Chelsea, this is the best.
